Laboratory of Fools

WHAT: The laboratory is an exchange and research format dedicated to the exploration of humor and comedy from an interdisciplinary and movement-oriented approach. The research focuses on the body as a playful and creative tool to express the absurdities and paradoxes of daily life in a humorfull way. As well as to investigate humor and comedy as a central medium of communication, critique and catharsis. The aim is to gather and highlight the essential principles and qualities of humor and play and to apply them in the context of performing arts. Furthermore we want to investigate how our humor in everyday life and at work can influence our perspective and way of doing.

WHO: Initiated by Felix Baumann in collaboration with a group of international co-researchers, facilitators and participants from Berlin (DE), Leipzig (DE), Dresden (DE), Karlsruhe (DE), Cologne (DE), Prague (CZ), Vienna (AT), Brussels (BEL) and other cities and countries. Amongst others: Kysy Fischer (BRA), Alica Minar (SK), Cox Ahlers (DE), Raul Vargas (COL), Benjamin Richter (DE), Tomas Janpyka (SK), Claud Teichmann (DE) & Lokke Wurm (DE).

WHERE: Studio 0/1, Gottlieb-Dunkel-Straße 30-32, Berlin (DE)

PARTNERS: The first try-out of the plattform was happening in 2020 at Studio ALTA in Invalidovna, Prag (CZ), as part of the "Myslet tancem project". In 2023 the relaunch and revision of the format supported - as part of the research project "Homo movens ludens" - by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media in the program NEUSTART KULTUR, aid program DIS-TANZEN of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland. In 2024 the format is supported - as part of the research project “ha ha ha” - by the Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
